TECHNIQUES

The following is a list of modalities that I may choose to utilize in our work together. Click each link to find out more.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) offers dramatic relief to those who suffer from a traumatic past, and continue to be haunted by their emotional pain. This technique allows the individual to reprocess memories, change their negative cognitions, and improve the overall quality of their life.

For many years I have worked with clients that struggle with chronic anxiety, depression and insomnia. Years of being on antidepressants have caused them to develop a tolerance to a variety of medications. If you have struggled with this issue and are unable to tolerate the side effects to many psychiatric medications, then the Alpha-Stim might be a beneficial alternative solution for you.

The Alpha-Stim AID is a Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) device that uses low-level electrical current to safely and effectively treat anxiety, depression and insomnia. Initially cleared by the FDA in 1992 as a non-invasive treatment, CES has worked well for those that seem to be considered “treatment resistant” to most psychiatric medication.

When used in session with my clients, this device helps manage symptoms of intense anxiety and pain and produces a lasting calming effect.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
If you’re looking to deepen your personal connections, manage emotional challenges, strengthen your sense of self as a confident and competent person, and improve your family or romantic relationships, Emotionally Focused Therapy will be a transformative choice. Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a short-term structured approach, encompassing 8 to 20 sessions, established in the 1980s based on attachment science.
Extensive research underpins EFCT’s effectiveness, showcasing substantial treatment effect sizes with enduring results. EFCT has been used successfully across diverse settings and with various couples facing challenges like depression, anxiety, attachment trauma and forgiveness dilemmas.

The goals of The Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship. I have found this methodology to work well with high achieving couples who struggle with work-life balance and self care.
IFS therapy introduces the concept that each individual has multiple "parts" within them, each with their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These parts can be categorized as protectors (like managers and firefighters, which try to protect from perceived threats) and exiles (which hold painful emotions and experiences). In couples therapy, partners learn to identify their own parts and how they might be influencing their interactions with their partner. I have found this methodology to work well with when one partner in the couple suffers from trauma.
The Enneagram is a personality typing system that describes nine interconnected personality types, each with unique core motivations, fears, and patterns of behavior. It's used for self-discovery, personal growth, and understanding relationships, offering insights into how individuals perceive the world and react to situations.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that helps individuals manage intense emotions and improve their relationships by teaching them specific skills. It is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on teaching four core skill sets: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Schema therapy is a therapeutic approach that addresses deep-rooted, often childhood-based, patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional and relational difficulties. It combines elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, and other approaches to help individuals identify and modify these patterns, known as "schemas," to improve their overall well-being.
